E.S.L. at the Upper Saddle River Library

As a member of the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley, the Upper Saddle River Library offers an ongoing ESL Program. The sessions which are free of charge provide English as a second language instruction for area adults. Local residents, who are specially trained tutors, teach foreign born adults on a one to one basis to speak, read and write English. All groups meet at the library at prearranged times.

Students and Tutors can find information and applications at the library circulation desk. Anyone who wishes to volunteer as a tutor can leave a message for Rosemarie Manganaro, ESL Manager at the library circulation desk, 201-327-2583.

The Friends work to raise money to support the library in a variety of ways:
• This year we completed the Young Adult (teen) solarium and community meeting room. This area provides a place for our Tweens/teens to meet, do homework, and work on group projects.
• In past years the USRFL have provided the funds for the Adult and Children's solarium as well as the elevator project to make our library barrier free. Special Programs included Sunday Music Programs, Great Literature Discussion Group, Upper Saddle River Let's Read Program, Teen and Children ongoing programs.
• Special Gifts: Playaways (MP3 players), Peek-A-Book, PA System, projection system, and digital camera.
• Youth Art Show - new in 2008
• Adult Art Show
• Annual Book & Author Luncheon
• Reference material, databases and special books • ESL Tutors

Our library CAN ONLY GROW greater as we look to the future. Already, the library stands as a wonderful cornerstone of our community providing opportunities for all to enjoy life long learning and to connect with the thoughts and ideas of others from ages past to the present.

The library is a valuable resource in our community. We need your support in meeting our goals to provide for its continued growth.

Please help us make certain that the USR Library will have the financial support necessary by downloading and mailing us the membership card and becoming a member of the USRFL today. Your generous support is a source of encouragement to all of us as we continue our mission to guarantee that our library remains a PRICELESS community resource for Upper Saddle River residents for years to come.

Patrick Brady, a noted artist and USR resident has painted the beautiful cherry blossom tree that adorns the wall in the circulation area. He has donated his art work to recognize the donations made by sponsor and benefactor contributions. Their gift entitles them to a cherry blossom name tag, either a family name or in honor or memoriam for a special relative or friend.

We welcome new members to join our group. We meet for lunch the first Monday of the month beginning in September and ending in June. If you are interested in joining us or if you would like to volunteer for one of our special projects such as the Adult Art Show, Children's Art Show, Booksales, Boutique, ESL Tutors, Directory Distribution, please leave your name at the Library circulation desk.
